The consultant and procurement team benchmarked the package against established US and European brands commonly used on high-end hospitality projects. Their requirement was not to buy the lowest-priced product. For an egress opening that is also fire-rated, buyers must distinguish between the exit function and the fire performance of the completed opening. UL notes that certified doors, frames and related hardware must be selected and verified according to their intended use, applicable limitations and markings.
In the terminology used for this project, UL 305 addresses panic-hardware egress performance, while UL 10C is associated with the positive-pressure fire-test performance of the door assembly. Not necessarily. UL explains that opening protectives are systems and that certifications, markings, intended uses and limitations must be evaluated for the relevant application.[1] Product-level listing does not replace verification of the complete, approved door opening.
UL 305 concerns panic-hardware egress performance. UL 10C concerns positive-pressure fire testing of the door assembly. For a hotel door that must provide both emergency egress and fire-rated performance, specify fire exit hardware that is correctly labeled for the intended fire-rated opening and verify the entire assembly with the relevant documentation and AHJ.
