A bank headquarters cannot treat every opening as the same specification. Public banking halls need dependable hardware for frequent use. Offices and meeting rooms require controlled access and consistent operation. Fire doors must preserve the intended performance of the complete door assembly. Emergency exits need intuitive egress hardware, while utility rooms require secure, maintainable locking.
The client wanted to avoid the common project risks created by fragmented sourcing: mismatched components, inconsistent finishes, duplicated supplier coordination, uncertain certification coverage and more complicated after-sales support. The commercial objective was equally clear—meet the specification and local acceptance requirements without paying for performance the project did not need.
D&D reviewed each door application as a working system. The lock, hinge, closer, lever, cylinder and exit device were selected according to the opening's function, traffic level, security need and fire-door requirement. This reduced the risk of choosing individually compliant components that were unsuitable when combined on a specific opening.
D&D presented both UL-listed and CE / BS EN hardware routes. The choice was not based on a generic claim that one standard is universally better. It was based on the applicable project specification, local requirements, door construction, intended use and budget. Following that review, the client selected the CE / BS EN package.
Different departments and service teams needed different permissions. A four-level master key structure was therefore designed around operational authority—from building-wide control to individual doors—rather than simply supplying cylinders as isolated products.
The hardware schedule standardized compatible models and finishes across repeated door types. Combined with D&D's factory-direct manufacturing model, this helped control procurement cost while preserving the specified certification and performance requirements.

D&D's referenced fire-performance portfolio includes products tested up to 260 minutes under EN 1634 and up to three hours under UL 10C. The applicable rating remains product-, configuration- and assembly-specific and should be confirmed in the relevant certification documentation.

The result was easier day-to-day key management, clearer access boundaries and reduced dependence on large numbers of individual keys. The hierarchy also gave facilities teams a more maintainable framework for future changes.
Certification demonstrates the performance of tested samples and configurations. Project buyers also need confidence that production shipments remain consistent. D&D supplements third-party testing with batch-level controls and random sampling in its in-house laboratory.

One supplier can coordinate the package, but every opening still requires a function-specific hardware set. Fire rating, traffic, security, accessibility, egress and door construction must be reviewed individually.
Choose the standards route required by the project specification, local regulation and authority having jurisdiction. Product availability or price alone should not determine the route. In this project, the CE / BS EN solution offered the appropriate balance after technical and budget review.
A planned hierarchy limits access by role while allowing authorized managers to operate groups of locks. It reduces key volume, clarifies responsibility and makes future access changes easier to manage.
