How to buy a good stainless steel hinges?

Publish Time: 2021-07-05     Origin: Site

A hinge is a mechanical component used to connect the surfaces of two objects. It allows the surface to rotate about a fixed axis, as shown in the adjacent photo. One of the most common applications for hinges is doors. Whether in a home or commercial setting, hinges are commonly used to mount a door into a door frame. The hinge holds the door in place while also allowing it to rotate open and closed.

However, if you are planning to purchase hinges for your business, you may be wondering which material is best. Hinges are available in several different materials, with the two most common being aluminum and steel. There are also stainless steel hinges. Let's learn more about them together.

This passage is going to talk about the followings of the door hinge:

1) Introduction to a door hinge

2) Steel hinges and Aluminum hinges

3) Stainless steel door hinge advantages

1) Materials of a door hinge

There are many different types of materials used for door hinge. The characteristics of different materials are also different. What material of door hinge is better to choose? I have found a lot of information about different materials of door hinge. Let's read on to learn more.

2) Steel hinges and Aluminum hinges

Steel hinges are strong, durable and highly durable. Steel itself is an alloy that combines iron, carbon and other trace elements. Because it is made from an easily available material, steel hinges are also inexpensive. For these reasons, steel hinges have become a popular choice for manufacturing companies and other purchasers.

All steels have iron and carbon, but there are different types of steel. For example, some hinges are made of traditional steel, while others are made of stainless steel. Stainless steel is characterized by the addition of chromium, which protects the metal from rusting and oxidation. It is called "stainless steel" because the added layer of chromium prevents the intrusion of moisture. When moisture cannot reach the iron compound in a steel hinge, it will not rust or corrode. Conventional steel lacks this protective layer of chromium and is therefore susceptible to rust and corrosion.

Aluminum hinges are not as strong as steel hinges, but they are lighter than steel hinges. Aluminum is approximately 40% lighter than steel. In applications where multiple hinges are used, this means that the use of aluminum hinges reduces the overall weight and therefore the pressure exerted on the connected objects.

Another benefit of choosing aluminum hinges is that they do not rust. As mentioned earlier, rusting occurs when moisture (technically oxygen in moisture) comes into contact with iron. However, aluminum does not contain iron, so it will not rust even when exposed to moisture. Unless it is made of aluminum oxide, aluminum will still corrode, but not rust. As a result, aluminum hinges are often used outdoors in climates that are not easily controlled.

3) Stainless steel door hinge advantages

There are clear long-term benefits to using stainless steel for hinges compared to other options. In many man-made and natural environments, stainless steel hinges have significantly higher resistance to rust (oxidation) and corrosion.

In addition to its glossy, smooth surface, stainless steel has tremendous strength and has revolutionized virtually every type of industry including transportation, pharmaceutical, food industry and most importantly, construction.

Stainless steel hinges are often the product of choice for marine applications because of their high resistance to rust. Much better than galvanized steel, bronze or brass. Although pitting and crevice corrosion may occur on the surface of stainless steel hinges over time, this material is still far superior to other options.

Different materials determine the scope of use of the hinge. The choice of hinges has a very large impact on the use of the door. If an improper hinge is installed on the door, it is not only difficult to play the role of the door, but serious circumstances may endanger life safety. In order for the door to maximize door hanging and gating, it is important to choose the appropriate hinge.D&D hardware is used for rigorous safety tests (including BS EN, CE, UL, ANSI and BHMA) for education, health-care, hospitality, residential and commercial applications. D&D hardware can provide customers with meticulous professional hardware matching solutions according to different situations.
